Syracuse Uses Drones to Enhance Scene Safety

Syracuse.com – Syracuse Fire Department is adding drones to the toolbox in an effort to make emergency scenes more safe.

With one drone overseeing an incident sight for overall monitoring, another drone has thermal imaging abilities that can analyze the structure fires for critical heat and stability evaluations that can come in handy when sending in firefighters to risk their lives in a structure.

The program cost to kick it off was $20,000 for the equipment and training, said Captain Timothy Gleeson.
