ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. — An Anne Arundel County firefighter is hospitalized after collapsing while preparing to respond to a call on Sunday afternoon.
The Capital Gazette reports that Captain Donald Kelley was donning his personal protective equipment after he and his crew of the Lake Shore Fire Station, Company 20, were dispatched to a dwelling fire at approximately 12:50 p.m.
The driver of the fire engine found Captain Kelley on the apparatus bay floor. He called 911 and began CPR, according to fire department spokesman Captain Russ Davies.
Other firefighters came with an AED and were able to resuscitate Captain Kelley before paramedics had arrived.
Kelley, 62, and a 33-year veteran of the fire department, was transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center and transferred later to University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
Kelley remains in stable condition.
