St. Petersburg (FL) Fire and Rescue Honors First Black Firefighters

In 1972, six black men dubbed the “Courageous Six” joined the St. Petersburg fire department becoming the city’s first black firefighters.

Finding acceptance on the job was a struggle, especially in the early days, as three of the firefighters explained to ABC Action News.
