International Association of Fire Fighters
The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) has released a list of participants for the 59th Inaugural Ceremonies on January 20 when Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in as president and vice president of the United States, which includes South Fulton, GA IAFF Local 3920 President Andrea Hall, who has been selected to lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
“When the Biden Senior Transition Team asked me to recommend a union leader and rank-and-file fire fighter, my job was easy,” says Harold Schaitberger, General President of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). “President Hall organized her local and then passed an ordinance that afforded collective bargaining rights for her members. That was not an easy thing to do in a right-to-work state.”
“Andrea has been an extremely effective leader in the 12th district,” says IAFF 12th District Vice President Walt Dix. “I am very proud of her accomplishments. I can think of no one better for this honor.”
President Hall is a career fire fighter with 28 years of dedicated service with the City of South Fulton Fire and Rescue Department. In 2004, she became the first African American woman in the department’s history to be promoted to the rank of fire captain in 2004.
“I could never have imagined that I would be asked to participate in such an historical event. I am both humbled and honored,” says Hall. “It is an important time. I look forward to seeing what great things we can do together.”
Because of the ongoing pandemic, some of the Inauguration ceremony will take place virtually.
