REIDVILLE, South Carolina – WSPA reports that two South Carolina fire departments are in mourning over the sudden loss of a firefighter in a motorcycle crash.
Firefighter Tyler Warfield was traveling to the Reidville Fire station Wednesday, after finishing his shift at Clear Springs Fire Rescue, when he was involved in a collision.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol says Warfield, 23, was traveling north on Silver Lake Road when the driver of a pickup truck turned onto Dillard Road and collided with Warfield’s motorcycle. Warfield was pronounced dead at the scene.
Warfield had worked for the Clear Springs and Reidville fire departments for nearly three years.
“You know, it’s hard on us all. It’s hard when it’s somebody else, but it’s even harder when it’s one of your own,” Reidville Fire Department Chief Patrick Evatt told WSPA.
He worked as a full-time firefighter for Clear Springs and as a part-time firefighter for Reidville. He began his service as a junior firefighter with the City of Mauldin.
“I mean, that shows his dedication and devotion under the fire service. On his day off from here, he was working for another fire department,” said Clear Springs Fire Rescue Chief Michael Huppmann.
The crash is still under investigation.
