A transformer fire at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital has forced the evacuation of the entire facility.
The nine-alarm fire started at 7 a.m. in the basement transformer room of the Centre Street hospital.
In order to fight the fire, Brockton firefighters had to have the electricity to the hospital shut down – both the utility power and the facility’s backup generator.
Brockton firefighters fought the fire for more than an hour while crews from other departments and scores of ambulances worked to relocate patients to other area facilities on a frigid morning.
