Hundreds of volunteers continue searching the woods of Kittitas County near Cliffdell for Deputy Chief Jay Schreckengost who went missing in the area last week. Schreckengost’s vehicle was found in the area, where he was elk hunting.
“A significant portion of ground searchers is made up of Seattle and other Fire Department personnel. SFD Battalion Chiefs are working with Sheriff’s Office Search Coordinators as liaisons, helping to manage the integration of these trained first responders into a rugged mountain wilderness rescue operation. Seattle Fire command personnel are on scene today, being briefed on search efforts and supporting their personnel,” the Kittitas Sheriff’s Office announced.
After Schreckengost fell out of contact on Nov. 2, his family contacted the sheriff. Increasing numbers of volunteers have continued searching for him daily. The Sheriff’s Office said state search and rescue planners were working with K9 teams, drone teams, 4×4 teams, mountain rescue teams, and ground teams focusing on Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.
