Townhome fire goes to five-alarms

STATEN ISLAND, New York — Several firefighters were injured on Monday while fighting a fire in a row of townhomes on Staten Island.
WABC reports that firefighters responded to the fire at Rensselaer Avenue shortly after 3:00 p.m.
18 firefighters and one civilian were injured in what would become a five-alarm fire. The FDNY reported on Twitter that 10 firefighters were injured.
A retired NYPD sergeant rescued a wheelchair-bound woman from one of the homes.
Nearly 30 people have been displaced by the fire and are being assisted by the Red Cross.
Fire officials told WABC that the attic construction allowed for the fire to quickly spread through the roof.
The fire was brought under control in approximately two hours.
The cause of the fire in under investigation.
