Seven Cabins Destroyed at IL Resort Fire; 57 Fire Departments Respond

Seven cabins, or villas, burned at the Grand Bear Resort at the Starved Rock State Park in Utica Monday.

The fire broke out around 5 p.m. apparently in front of one of the villas at the resort and spread quickly. High wind and limited water from fire hydrants made the fire difficult to extinguish.

It took roughly two hours to bring the fire under control. Fifty-seven departments responded to the fire. No one was injured in the fire and no major damage occurred at the resort’s main facilities.

Some of the villas that burned each contained multiple units; as many as 20 units were damaged in the fire.
