San Bernardino (CA) Fire Engine Rear-Ended by Semi in Traffic Accident

A San Bernardino County fire engine suffered significant damage Friday when it was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler while working a traffic accident.

San Bernardino County Fire’s Medic Engine 76 was struck at about 2:30 a.m. at the scene of a crash on the westbound 10 freeway near Sierra Ave in Fontana, Action Eye News reports.

The engine had positioned to block potential traffic from colliding with emergency workers and victims at the scene of the original accident, and it served its purpose.

No one was injured in the crash. The engine itself was empty when it was struck and the two occupants of the 18-wheeler suffered only minor injuries and refused treatemnt.

Crews from Station 76 have moved into a reserve apparatus, so they can continue to provide service to Bloomington and the surrounding area. California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of both collisions.
