The children, ages 3 and 6, were among seven people hospitalized after the multi-alarm fire broke out at the Motel 6 at Cypresswood and Interstate 45, the fire marshal’s office said.

The children and three adults suffered minor injuries. It’s unclear whether the other two people suffered serious injuries.

Earlier in the afternoon, firefighters helped people and pets evacuate the building as they battled the blaze. Photos shared by the Spring Fire Department show smoke billowing from the roof and one firefighter helping a man out of a window.
American Red Cross was on the scene later in the evening, providing food to families and “comfort kits.”
The fire marshal’s office is discussing the possible charges against the caretaker with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
