Firefighter shot after stopping men harassing
a homeless man

PUEBLO, Colorado – KRDO reports that an off-duty Pueblo firefighter was shot and police have released suspect information.
Several off-duty firefighters were outside the Pueblo FD Union Building on Sunday waiting for a pizza to arrive.
While waiting for food, the firefighters noticed a group of men come out of a bar and begin to harass an individual with mental disabilities that was walking by.
Pueblo police say the individual was a homeless man experiencing some sort of mental health issue.
The firefighters told the group of men to leave the individual alone and the men left.
Later an individual fired several shots in the firefighter’s direction from a vehicle striking one firefighter in the leg.
The wounded firefighter is in stable condition.
Pueblo police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Esteban Gallegos.
An arrest warrant has been obtained for Gallegos for one count of 1st Degree Assault and eight counts of Attempted 1st Degree Murder.
