PALM BEACH GARDENS, Florida — Six Palm Beach Gardens firefighters were forced to self-quarantine after a 911 caller deliberately failed to disclose their travel abroad.

CBS12 reports that the patient did not truthfully answer screening questions on Sunday related to possible COVID-19 exposure.

When firefighters arrived the patient again failed to answer truthfully the screening questions presented.

Based on the patient’s answers the crew was left to not suspect any possible infection.

At the emergency department the patient’s daughter told fire personnel that the patient had recently returned from a trip to Italy.

It is not reported if the daughter was at the home when fire crews were there.

Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue said that the six responding firefighters were sent home to self-quarantine while waiting on test results.

The fire department issued a statement,

The City of Palm Beach Gardens Public Safety urges everyone to answer the screening questions truthfully and to not withhold any information that could help determine possible infection with COVID-19. These questions are designed to protect all first responders, emergency room staff and the general public. If it is determined that a patient is possibly infected, fire rescue personnel can take the appropriate precautions to protect themselves and emergency department personnel. We want to ensure the public that all patients with suspected COVID-19 infection will be treated and/or transported to the hospital for appropriate care.
