MANHATTAN, New York — A fire overnight in a Manhattan apartment building injured at least 12 people, two critically.

Firefighters arrived at Box 10301 for a fire at 515 East 72nd Street just before 2:00 a.m.

Firefighters found two people unresponsive in the doorway of the fire apartment on the 24th floor.

Officials from the FDNY told reporters that the open door allowed the fire to spread from the kitchen to the hallway.

Deputy Assistant Chief Joseph Ferrante said they received numerous calls from apartments above about smoke and people trapped.

Four firefighters were also injured while fighting the fire.

Officials say the fire began in the kitchen.
