Ohio Firefighter Dies after Collapsing on Fireground

Nelsonville firefighter collapses at structure fire

NELSONVILLE, Ohio – An Ohio fire department is in mourning over the sudden death of one of its firefighters during a structure fire this weekend.

The Nelsonville Division of Fire announced that Senior Firefighter Jeff Armes collapsed while on the scene of a structure fire Sunday.

The fire department responded to a structure fire at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Pleasantview Avenue. In a Facebook post the fire department reported that Senior Firefighter Armes was actively involved in firefighting operations when he suddenly collapsed.

CPR was immediately started and Armes was transported to OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital in Athens where he was later pronounced dead.
