OH Firefighter Collapses in Training; Taken to ICU for Cardiac Event

A Streetsboro firefighter is in intensive care after collapsing during a training session.

According to a Facebook post from the Streetsboro Fire Department, the incident happened just before noon on Monday during an EMS training session.

“Surrounded by his fellow Fire Medics, advanced cardiac life support was immediately initiated, along with assistance from our medical control physician who was giving the presentation at the time of the incident,” the department said via Facebook.

The firefighter was taken to to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center (UHPMC), where he did regain a pulse and breathing.

The department thanked the first responders who assisted at the scene, as well as departments who staffed Streetsboro while the department looked after its own member.
