Tree falls on car carrying Horsepasture fire chief and wife

HENRY COUNTY, Virginia — Thousands mourned the death of a local fire chief and his wife in a bizarre crash on Friday as reported by WSLS.

Horsepasture Volunteer Fire Department Chief Charlie Bradshaw and his wife Sherri died after a tree on the side of the road fell and struck their car.

The Bradshaw’s two grandchildren were in the back seat and suffered minor injuries.

The crash occurred at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and firefighters were surprised to find the victims were part of the department family.

Acting fire chief Nickie Hairston told WSLS that the firefighters were “tore up” when they returned to the fire department.

The Bradshaw’s had a large impact on the community and in the county according to firefighters and officials.

Chief Bradshaw served as chief since 2007. Prior to that he was a member of the Fieldale Rescue Squad in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
