ROWAN COUNTY, North Carolina — Police report that a volunteer firefighter shot another firefighter before taking his own life in Granite Quarry, according to WSOCTV.com

Officials say that the murder-suicide shooting occurred at a home on North Main Street.

The 26-year old suspect was waiting in a pickup truck outside of his estranged wife’s home. When the other man walked out of the home the suspect fired a shotgun, hitting the man in the head.

The shooter then went into the house, confronted his estranged wife, and turned the gun on himself.

Granite Quarry-Faith Joint Police Department Chief Mark Cook told WSOC that the deaths were the first murder in Granite County in approximately 20 years.

Chief Cook said that both men were firefighters.  Their names were not released out of respect for the families.
