KENANSVILLE, North Carolina – WITN reports that Warsaw and Faison firefighters celebrating the Warsaw police chief’s retirement on Friday were called to help put out a house fire in Kenansville and rescued a man trapped inside

Several crews were on scene of the house fire in Kenansville. Warsaw firefighter Blake Phillips and Faison fire chief Lee Kennedy went inside with a hose when they heard a call for help.

“I heard somebody holler ‘help me, I can’t breathe.’ And Blake heard the same thing,” Chief Kennedy told WITN.

A man was found on the floor near the backdoor.

Phillips and Kennedy said the man needed a walker or wheelchair.

The man was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
