North Carolina Firefighter Dies in Dive Team Search

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Officials report that a North Carolina firefighter’s body has been recovered after he went missing during a search for a missing swimmer.

Firefighter Bradley Long, 28, was one of three divers searching for a 29-year old man in Lake Norman on Monday.  Divers from Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire and Rescue were searching the lake on Sunday for a man who had jumped off a boat and never surfaced.  The search was suspended on Sunday evening and resumed on Monday morning.

According to WBTV, Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire Chief Rick Davis said that an emergency involving three fire department divers occurred during the recovery efforts.  Two were injured and able to surface.  Long did not surface and a search was begun to locate him.  His body was later located and pronounced dead on the scene.

The names of the injured divers and their conditions have not been released.

Bradley Long was a volunteer with Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire Rescue and an employee with the Newton Fire Department.

More details are expected to be announced during a press conference on Tuesday morning.
