North Carolina Firefighter Critical after Being Struck at Fire Scene

Young firefighter struck while assisting at a fire scene

BEAUFORT COUNTY, North Carolina — WITN reports that a Pamlico County firefighter is in critical condition, fighting for her life, after being struck by a vehicle.

Pamlico County firefighter Maegan Speciale, 20, was setting up a roadblock on Highway 306 and Bergin Road near Aurora.

Sergeant Kevin Respass of the Highway Patrol said that Linda McCollum was driving north on Highway 306 and tried to veer out of the way of a fire truck. Speciale saw the car coming and tried to get out off the road but was struck.

Speciale was transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

No charges have been filed but the accident is under investigation.
