Nine Firefighters Injured in Bronx Fire

Five-alarm fire in Grand Concourse apartment

BRONX, New York — Nine firefighters are among a total of 11 people injured after a fire tore through an apartment building Friday night.

The Daily News reports that the fire on the top floor of the six-story Grand Concourse apartment started at approximately 8:15 p.m.

The fire quickly extended through the cockloft.

Over 200 firefighters battled the blaze.  The nine injured firefighters were transported to Bronx-Lebanon Hospital. One of the injured firefighters was listed in serious but stable condition.

FDNY fire marshals determined the cause of the fire to be accidental.
