Mold Closes Jasper County (SC) Fire Station

Officials in Jasper County closed a fire station and relocated emergency responders to another location while they determine how best to handle mold that has contaminated the station.

Environmental monitoring detected several types of mold, including black mold, in certain rooms at the
Coosawhatchie Station, the county announced in a press release. Because of health concerns over mold exposure, the station’s operations were moved to the next nearest station.

A number of options are being evaluated for the Coosawhatchie Station, including removing the mold, replacing parts of the station structure or replacing the entire building, which was built in 1995.
