Midwest City (OK) Fire Department: Third-Party 911 Calls Posing Risks to Responders

The Midwest City Fire Department is urging people to call 911 themselves in case of an emergency and not rely on another person to make the call for them.

The situation is arising more frequently, the department says, with the result being that dispatchers cannot obtain needed information from a caller, such as whether a building that is on fire has been evacuated.

A typical scenario might involve a child who phones a parent when a fire breaks out, rather than call 911 directy.
