Tractor-trailer lifted to extricate patient

Miami Dade Fire Rescue

At 5:21 on Wednesday morning, January 13, 18 Miami Dade Fire Rescue units including the Technical Rescue Team and Heavy 1 responded to a multiple rollover motor vehicle crash near NW 106 Street & the southbound lanes of the Turnpike.

Upon arrival, MDFR crews found four vehicles that had rolled over as a result of the accident, with one person trapped inside a tractor trailer.

Firefighters were able to extricate the patient by utilizing Heavy 1 and another rotator to lift the truck from the ground in order to cut part of the truck where the patient was trapped.

Once they successfully removed parts of the cab such as the steering column, the door and the roof, due to the slippery and unstable terrain, firefighters used a rope system in order to raise the patient back on the roadway.
