Maryland Heights (MO) Ice Rescue Training Turns into Real Rescue for Two Boys

Maryland Heights firefighters were training on ice rescue procedures Tuesday when two boys fell through the ice nearby, turning training into a real rescue.

The incident happened at Creve Coeur Lake around 10:45 a.m. With a group of 15 firefighters nearby training on ice rescue scenarios, two boys, 15 and 17, walking across the frozen lake broke through the ice, KDSK reports.

A deputy chief saw the boys from shore and the firefighters immediately shifted their focus to the actual rescue. The two boys were suffering from the initial stages of hypothermia when they were checked at the hospital, but were released without further treatment.
