Las Vegas (NV) High School Fire Alarm Shooting Sends Three to Hospital

Two Chaparral High School students and an adult were shot while the students had been evacuated from the school because of a fire in a restroom Monday morning.

Metro Police Capt. Kristine Buist told reporters the incident began to unfold at about 11 o’clock Monday morning when the fire department responded to a restroom fire at the school, prompting an evacuation while the fire was extinguished.

At 11:45, the police received reports of gunfire near the school. Shortly thereafter, three victims transported themselves to a hospital with gunshot wounds. The wounds were not inflicted on school property.

The initial investigation suggests the fire was not related to the shootings, other than causing the students to be out of school when they occurred. The metro police gang unit is investigating the matter.
