Los Angeles Fire Department – When someone flies into the Los Angeles area exhibiting flu-like symptons (temperature, body aches, nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath, etc.) and are coming from a geographic area of concern for contagious disease such as the Corona Virus, SARS or Ebola, your Los Angeles Fire Department responders take extra precautions that allow quick access to the patient, and prevent the needless spread of illness.

Along with a disposable gown worn over their standard uniform, LAFD Firefighters will don eye protection as well as a face mask for themselves – and the patient.

Though LAFD is trained in the pre-hospital management of infectious disease, know that your Firefighter/Paramedics are closely guided in such situations by the expertise of their Base Hospital Physician and Public Health officials to assure optimal care for the patient, the community and themselves. It’s part of our commitment to keeping you safe and well.
