Kennewick (WA) to Pay $400,000 to Former Chief to Settle Discrimination Lawsuit

The City of Kennewick has agreed to pay former Fire Chief Vince Beasley $400,000 to settle his lawsuit charging racial discrimination.

Beasley filed suit after he was fired in 2019. He worked for the Kennewick Fire Department for 40 years, including as chief from 2014 until 2019.

KEPR reports in addition to the $400,000 the city will also pay an undetermined amount to cover the former chief’s legal fees. Beasley’s lawsuit charged that he was fired because he is Black and opposed discriminatory practices within the department.
