Judge: North Las Vegas Can Be Held Accountable for ‘Party Firehouse’ Overdose

A federal judge has ruled that the City of North Las Vegas can be sued over the death of a woman treated at one of its firehouses.

In February 2020, Tiffany Slatsky overdosed and her firefighter husband took her to Station 51 to administer Narcan, but she later died at home. Firefighter Christopher Candito pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the incident.

Slatsky’s family, meanwhile, sued the city, saying that it ignored warnings about the drug use among employees at the fire station, which they say was widely known as a ‘party firehouse. Because Candito accessed Narcan at the station, he was acting in his capacity as a city employee. Thus, the city is liable in the lawsuit, which is still in its early stages.

The city argued that it was not liable because Candito was not on duty when he treated his wife. The judge sided with Slatsky’s family and allowed the lawsuit to proceed.
