Jet Truck Explodes at Battle Creek (MI) Air Show; Driver, 40, Killed

A truck powered by three jet engines exploded Saturday at the Battle Creek Air Show, killing the driver.

The explosion happened as a stunt truck called Shockwave was putting on a show, racing jets flying overhead on the Battle Creek airport runway.

As the truck raced down the runway, a fire broke out in one of the engines and blew off the vehicles rear tires, prompting it to rollover and crash in a fireball.

Firefighters on scene extinguished the fire. Driver Chris Darnell, 40, died in the blast.

The rest of the airshow was cancelled. Battle Creek and Federal Aviation Administration officials are investigating the incident.
