Authorities say lieutenant knew his killer

JACKSON, Mississippi — WLBT reports that a Jackson Fire Department lieutenant was killed in a shooting Sunday evening.

Police say Fire Lieutenant Yancey Williams was shot and killed just before midnight at Marathon Gas.

Williams, a seven-year firefighters, worked out of Station 20 on Medgar Evers Boulevard.

A suspect has been arrested, but not identified. Officials say that the suspect is someone Williams knew.

Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said the city and department are saddened by the loss of one of their own.
