Iconic Syracuse Deputy Chief Passes Away

SYRACUSE, New York — Syracuse Fire Firefighters Local 280 announced the death of Deputy Fire Chief (retired) Thomas Laun on Wednesday.

Chief Laun is described as having been “larger than life” with a deep love for the fire service.

In a Facebook post the union also described him as being extremely well-respected and always for the men.

Chief Laun gained recognition outside of Syracuse and in his retirement in a video by Syracuse.com as part of the coverage of the closing of Engine Company 7 where Luan was captain.

In the video short Laun tells a reporter the meaning behind ‘BMA.’
