JACKSONVILLE, Florida — Two Jacksonville firefighters stabbed by a patient in their ambulance in October are back to work and talking about the assault for the first time, with News4JAX.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department firefighters, assigned to Rescue 2, were taking a patient to the hospital in October when he started attacking them.
The patient grabbed a knife from Norris and began to stab him with it.
News4JAX said that Norris carries a knife on emergency calls in case he needs to free someone from a seat belt or other obstruction or entanglement.
Norris and Harper said the incident started at a nearby apartment complex where a man complained he was feeling sick and wanted to go to the hospital.
“It looked like a guy having some pain,” Norris told News4JAX “He was not being agitated or anything like that.”
