Houston firefighters rescued a worker trapped in a trench Monday afternoon.
The fire department was called to the 10000 block of North Loop East at about 2 p.m.
On the scene, they found a man buried waist-deep in an eight-foot-deep utility trench. A total of 78 firefighters assisted in the rescue, which took about two-and-a-half hours.
Assistant Fire Chief Michael Mire praised the work of the firefighters in bringing the man to safety.
“It’s not often trenches are rescued. they’re more often recoveries,” said Mire. “They deserve a lot of credit for what they did today.”
