Hermon (ME) Fire Department Flags Burned; Samaritan Makes Sure They Aren’t Gone Long

The neighborhood around the Hermon Fire Department was hit by vandals last weekend who stole and/or burned a number of American flags.

Hermon Fire Chief Frank Roma said among the flags that were stolen and burned was an American Flag that has flown at the Hermon Fire Department, and a special service flag used to honor Sgt. Bobbie Pelletier of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department, I-95 Rocks reports.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crimes, going over video that may shed some light on who took the flags.

Meanwhile, the owner of the company that had sold the flags to the Fire Department heard the story. Eddie Rideout of World of Flags decided he couldn’t wait until the criminals were caught. He donated replacement flags to the department the next day.

“Our nation’s flag will never cease to be proudly flown and the Service Flag that was being flown in recognition of our brother gone to soon, Penobscot County Sheriff Sgt. Bobbie Pelletier, will be proudly back in its place of honor again,” the town said via Facebook. “THANK YOU to Eddie Rideout and World of Flags for boosting our spirits and this random act of kindness.”
