SCALES MOUND, Illinois – The Telegraph Herald reports that a volunteer firefighter died last week after returning home from a medical call.

Leo W. Werner was a captain in the Scales Mound Fire Protection District.

Captain Werner, 67, had responded to a medical call at approximately 10:00 p.m. on December 9. Shortly after returning home, Werner suffered an apparent heart attack, according to Scales Mound Fire Chief Carl Winter.
