The City of Harrison is mourning the loss of Firefighter Vincent Doffont, 37, who died Saturday after suffering an apparent medical episode following a training exercise.

Doffont had been at a training exercise helping newer firefighters learn roof venting techniques when he returned to the firehouse to clean up. He suffered a medical episode and died.

Doffont, a firefighter since 2017, had also served as a patrolman on the Harrison Police Department, as a Hudson County sheriff’s officer and in the Marine Corps, completing two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as a rifleman, NJ.com reports.

The Fire Department released the following statement about his passing on Facebook:

With the most profound sadness we must announce the passing of active firefighter Vincent Doffont Badge #64. Vinny has been on the department since 2017 and was assigned to tour #2. Prior to joining the HFD Vinny was a patrolman for Harrison police. He also served with the Hudson county sheriff department. Vinny served his country honorably as a United States Marines, proudly as an 0311. We will post all arrangements as they are made. We love you brother. Rest in Valhalla.
