
Eaton struck three firefighters killing two

LAMAR COUNTY, Mississippi — The driver charged in the 2017 hit-and-run that killed two volunteer firefighters has pleaded guilty in Lamar County Circuit Court.
WDAM reports that Brandon Chance Eaton, 54, pleaded guilty to three felony counts of DUI in the incident that killed Clinton Alvin Beasley, 80, and Loretta Ann Sykes, 53, both members of the Oloh Volunteer Fire Department.
Police said that Eaton was driving south on Mississippi Highway 589 when he veered onto Oloh Road and struck three firefighters.
The firefighters were directing traffic after a truck became entangled on power lines on Highway 589.

Beasley and Sykes were pronounced dead on the scene. A third firefighter was transported to a local hospital.
Eaton was found and taken into custody six miles from the scene. He was originally charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death.
His charged were later upgraded to include three counts of aggravated DUI.
His bond was raised to $3.1 million.
Eaton had a criminal record and was a convicted felon at the time of the crash.
