GA Fire Chief on Leave as County Investigates Why a Criminal Fugitive Was Hired as a Firefighter

Douglas County Fire/EMS Chief Roderick Jolivette has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the completion of an investigation of the Department’s hiring process.

The move comes days after the department began facing questions about why a fugitive from justice in Alabama was on the payroll as a firefighter, 11 Alive reported.

Daymetrie Williams was hired in May 2021 — even though the 39-year-old was facing charges of felony theft because of a 2019 arrest, the station reported.

Chief Jolivette said a background check didn’t turn up any criminal history. Williams is also on administrative leave.
