The Rio Grande Volunteer Fire Department found an unwanted visitor as firefighters prepared to depart on a call.
As he was donning his gear to respond to a car accident, Firefighter Stan Cinowski lifted his helmet from the gear rack and found a black snake underneath, NBC Philadelphia reports.
Pranksters in the firehouse being more common than snakes, he assumed someone had put a rubber snake under his helmet. But when it moved, he realized he had awakened a black rat snake.
Firefighter Wayne Hall, who’s familiar with snakes from his landscaping business, picked up the snake, but the animal turned and bit his forearm,
In the end, Hall was able to return the snake to the wild where hopefully it will stay.
