FL Police Officer Charged with Assaulting Firefighter, Running Over Fire Hose at Fire Scene

A Delray police officer is charged with running over a fire hose and assaulting a firefighter as he tried to leave his driveway while his street was blocked for a fire.

Peter Sosa, 42, was arrested Sunday by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, WPTV reports. Court records say firefighters were working on a shed fire on Barberton Street when Sosa attempted to exit his driveway and maneuver around fire trucks and sheriff’s department vehicles.

The 12-year police officer allegedly drove across lawns and driveways trying to bypass the fire, as deputies and firefighters asked him to stop. At one point he allegedly drove over a fire department hose, puncturing it.

The incident ended with Sosa facing charges of failing to obey a police officer or firefighter, assault on a firefighter, destruction of property, and interfering with firefighting equipment. He is on leave from the department.
