Firefighter, Resident Hurt in Cambridge (MA) Triple-Decker Fire

A firefighter and an occupant of a home in Cambridge were hurt when the building caught fire early Wednesday morning.

The call to the triple-decker on River Street came in around 12:30 a.m. about a fire behind a kitchen dishwasher in the building. By the time firefighters arrive, the second floor was showing heavy smoke, and they were advised of a person still inside on the third floor.

Firefighters ran a ladder to rescue the third-floor occupant and entered the building to fight the fire on the second floor. The fire was largely extinguished by 2:30 a.m.

The occupant who was extricated was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. A firefighter was treated for an ankle injury at the fire. Eight people who lived in the three-family home were displaced
