KERN COUNTY, California – A firefighter has died while he was assigned to the Stagecoach Fire, reported by the United States Department of Agriculture.

The firefighter was said to have died due to a medical emergency according to fire and agriculture officials.

23ABC News reports that Pete Hein has been identified as the firefighter who died while battling the Stagecoach Fire in the Kern River Valley.

The Big Pine Volunteer Fire Department later identified Hein as the firefighter who died.
