Fire forced the evacuation of a hotel in midtown Manhattan Saturday and injured five people, including three firefighters.
The fire started in a homeless encampment three levels below ground under the building’s foundation and smoke spread upward through the building, CBS New York reports.
Firefighters were called to 515 West 42nd Street at 5:30 p.m. as the smoke was spreading through the building, which sits atop Amtrak tracks.
By 8:30 p.m. the fire was extinguished, but three firefighters and two individuals at the hotel suffered injuries in the fire. They are all expected to be fine.
