FDNY Firefighter Timothy Klein Dies in Brooklyn (NY) House Fire

A six-year veteran FDNY firefighter died Sunday after the partial collapse of a Brooklyn house that burned in the Canarsie neighborhood.

Timothy Klein, 31,and more than 100 firefighters responded to the fire shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday.

Firefighters were inside the residence when deterioration of the fire building prompted an evacuation order. Before the firefighters could all escape, Klein and three other FDNY members were trapped when part of the ceiling collapsed.

Acting Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said the other members were able to make it out of the fire and were transported to a hospital for treatment. They were not able to reach Klein in time to save him.

Five firefighters are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries and crews were still searching for a 21-year-old man with autism who was unaccounted for who lives at the location.
