There’s nothing “routine” about providing care (emergency or not) to the huge variety of people we meet and in the circumstances we encounter.

What we say, how we say it, and what our nonverbal behavior does to support those words are never the same, one person to the next. It’s half the fun of the job. BUT, interpersonal communication goes better when you ditch the mono-approach and start understanding how to be a chameleon–that is, how to assess for and use various roles to meet the needs of the situation.

It’s Acting 101, yes, but it’s also delivery of exceptional care when you have a bunch of tools in your toolbox for “reaching” the people you meet (and also those with whom you work). Learn how to enhance your ability to do your job in a way that’s fun and helpful.
