East Peoria (IL) Fire Chief Docked Time Off for Doing Private Fire Inspections on City Time

The City of East Peoria placed Chief John Knapp on administrative leave in January while investigating whether he had performed fire inspection work for his private company while on city time.

The city concluded he had performed the work on city time. As a result he was not paid for eight days of leave and had pay back time used inappropriately from his PTO, WMBD reports.

Knapp was returned to the job under the condition that he not repeat the offense. He plans to retire on May 7.
