WASHINGTON (ABC7) – A woman suffered “serious” injuries in a D.C. house fire Wednesday afternoon, DC Fire and EMS said.

Firefighters responded to the fire at a two-story single-family home in the 5700 block of Clay Street, NE around 3 p.m.

Overall, three women, including one in a wheelchair, were removed from the home, officials said. Two of the women were treated on scene, while the third woman was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

D.C. Fire and EMS said the fire appeared to originate from the basement, where two of the women were removed. A third woman was then also removed from the structure.

Four residents and one dog in total have now been displaced as a result of the fire, according to officials.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
