D.C. Firefighters Battle Blaze at Embassy of Ecuador

WASHINGTON (ABC7) – A large fire hit the Embassy of Ecuador building in D.C. overnight, leaving two firefighters in the hospital, according to authorities.

D.C. Fire officials reported the two-alarm fire at around 12:23 a.m. Wednesday at a building at 15th and Euclid St NW.

The fire department says that there was a “heavy” fire on the roof of the building and it took “aggressive” interior work to put the fire out in that part of the embassy.

Firefighters continued with what authorities called an “exhausting interior firefight” and say the blaze is now out and diplomats from the embassy were able to walk through the building.

About 20 units and 100 firefighters were called to the scene of the fire.

The firefighters who were taken to the hospital have non-life threatening injuries, fire officials say.

The 1400 through 1600 block of Euclid Street was closed because of the fire and the fire department says they will stay on the scene for a while.

Authorities have not said what may have caused the fire at this time.
